Situated on land granted by the Wesleyan Conference in the Parish of Duneed, County of Grant, this Denominational School opened in 1856.  State aid was granted on 1st of April 1856 and a bluestone building, 36 ft x 18 ft, was erected.  The first Head Teacher, Robert Brooks, enrolled 60 pupils.  With the introduction of State schools, Freshwater Creek became a Department school and a new weatherboard building, which is still in use [1973] was opened on 8th June 1883, the head Teacher at the time being Thomas P Martin.  A teacher's residence was supplied later.
