• DATE: Year of arrival
• PLACE: Location of photo - i.e. 2 / D / 5 = Board 2, row D, photo 5
• COMMENT: Position held by the pioneer [and sometimes dates]

• 215 entries

These photographs were taken in 1896 by local photographer George Leake Massingham

The large group of pioneers includes:

• councillors and mayors
• council officials: surveyor, secretary etc
• members of organisations such as Lodges
• parliamentary representatives
• government officials
• others such as university professors etc.
