Further details of many of these database indexes may be available through the Geelong Family History Group.

Make sure you look at the two Research Options on their website and most importantly follow the link to the GFHG Research Files Catalogue List to check for these or many more indexes and documents.

• Shire of Colac Rate Books.  This is the beginning of a new joint project of the Colac & District Family History Group and the Colac & District Historical Society.  Rate Books can be viewed in person in the CDFHG or CDHS rooms - see "More information?" below.
• The Rate Books are also available at the Geelong Heritage Centre.

• NAME: Name of occupier and/or owner
• DATE: Year of rate books
• PLACE: Parish where property is located
• COMMENT: Owner, occupier or both
• REFERENCE: Page number on which the entry appears for the relevant year.  NOTE: this is the Acrobat file page number from the digital files and not the printed page number.

• 30,991 entries [1863-64, 1864-65, 1865-66, 1866-67, 1867-68, 1868-69, 1869-70, 1870-71, 1875-76, 1880-81, 1885-86, 1890-91, 1896-97, 1900-01, 1905-06, 1910-11, 1920-21 indexed]

NOTE: Indexes will include all rate books to 1870-71 inclusive then approximately every 5 years from 1875-76
