COUPER, Percy Bernard
Noted events in his life were: • Biography. Worked for John Thomas (Jack) Hurney farming sugar cane, then tried to restore his father's farm which was run down due to father - Thomas - preferring to go gold fossicking around Ravenswood. However the farm needed more money for repairs and upkeep than was possible. Married Jack's sister, Elizabeth Hurney. They lived at Ayr, North Qld, til the early 1940's when during World War II residents on the coastline feared invasion from the Japanese, so Percy moved his little family inland to Mt. Isa. After the war they moved to 10th Avenue, Home Hill where Percy got work at the sugar mill. Later he worked for the Home Hill Council driving trucks. Then they moved to 23 Carnation St, Manly, Qld, to be nearer hospitals as Percy developed bowel trouble, which later caused his death. He just managed to see his first grandchild, Raeleen, before he passed away. Percy married Elizabeth HURNEY, daughter of James Joseph HURNEY and Jessie MACKERSIE, on 3 Sep 1931 in Home Hill, North Queensland, Australia. (Elizabeth HURNEY was born on 24 Jul 1905 in Killarney Farm, Clare Road, Ayr, Queensland, Australia, died on 26 Sep 1983 in PA Hospital, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and was buried in Hemmant Cemetery, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.) |
