About the Gold Dispatches and the Geelong Advertiser
  • Geelong Advertiser commenced 21 November 1840
  • 12 December 1851 - a list of names was published in the Geelong Advertiser - people petitioning for a public meeting with regard to the fixing of a license fee for gold digging
  • Geelong Advertiser gold lists appeared irregularly.  The people listed sent gold by escort from the goldfields (Ballarat, Creswick, Mt Alexander etc.) to Geelong.  Information contained in the newspaper includes the name of the consignee and the amount of gold or money being despatched.
