The revised / updated edition of Balla-wein is titled: Balla-wein: The History of the Shire of Bellarine to 1993

   Balla-wein

In 1988 after two years of research and writing, Ian Wynd’s long-awaited publication Balla-wein: A History of the Shire of Bellarine was launched.  Balla-wein was jointly funded by the Shire of Bellarine and the Australian Bicentennial Authority.  Five years later the Shire (which became the Bellarine Rural City Council in 1989) ended with the formation of the City of Greater Geelong.  Within another five years, Balla-wein appeared to be heading down the same path with little prospect of raising the funds to reprint this much sought-after publication.

Fortunately things change and with improvements in technology, funding assistance from the City of Greater Geelong Community Grants Program and the Buckley Trust, and member contributions and fund-raising, the second edition of Balla-wein has been published.  This edition includes a new chapter written by the late Ian Wynd - ‘Postscript: The Final Curtain’ - taking the history from 1988 to 1993 and thus making it a complete history.

The book was launched on Sunday 3rd July at the Bellarine Historical Society’s Old Court House Museum, High Street, Drysdale.  In 1988 the first edition was launched by the then President of the Shire of Bellarine, Cr. Kevin Bell.  The Bellarine Historical Society was delighted that Kevin agreed to launch this important revised edition.
